Busy AF and a New Job

When you get busy with new things some other things drop off.

I started the Introduction to Team Leadership Level 3 – Open Polytechnic course I mentioned in the last blog post.

I’m finding it really interesting and wish I had known about and done it years ago. It would have been very useful in some of the roles I was in. I’m not sure if it would have made me a better team leader… but it would have been good to have the info.

I still need to do the first assignment. That got pushed out of the way recently.

Because:

  • I got busy with the 48hour film competition
  • I was sick with a cold and a stupid cough that still lingers now
  • I got a new job

48hour Film Competition

I got asked if I wanted to be the city manager for this years comp.

It was a last minute thing and it sounded like it could be fun. Interacting with filmmakers and making some more connections.

As I write this we have the heats to play then the grand final in over a months time.

It’s been a good experience.

So Sick

I got a flu vaccination and a covid booster at the same time.

I know those really don’t have anything to do with being sick, but since that day I’ve been at various levels of sickness.

I’m glad most of the cough has gone away now. That was a real pain for myself and anyone nearby.

New Job

I think this was the 4th job I’ve applied for since reading the What Color is Your Parachute book.

I’m not going to talk about the new role, or even my old job.

What I will say is that I think on paper I’ve found a new job that ticks a lot of boxes for me. Time will tell how it goes.

The biggest thing for me is the transition from the job I’ve been doing for the last 10 years and going to this new position.

This transition or change would be the same for any new job I had got. The old job, which I am at right now as I type this and have only a handful of days left to work has basically ruined me for anything else.

I’ve said that for the last 5 or so years.

It’s good to sit down from time to time and think about what you are doing.

Some things come to mind when I do that.

  • Is this the best thing for my physical or mental health?
  • Could I be doing something that is more fulfilling?

There is a whole lot of things that go into the work you do. More than most people realise.

I think the people that have jobs or careers or jobs they really like to do have cracked this code. I think this part of thinking about jobs and employment is explained as well as it could be to younger people.

Anyway I’m excited to start the new job. Learn new things and meet new people.

The last days of the old job are slowly dragging on.

Better Keep Being Busy

I have a couple of things I need to sort out before the new job.

I also need to get healthier and feel better. This sickness thing sucks balls.

And… I need to sit down and do the first assignment for this course and read up on the next section.
