The Plan for June
Every month I seem to have a plan, the idea is to try and stick to something for a month, see how it goes and then decide if it is working for me and should be part of my daily routine.
Last July I vlogged every day for that month, you can see what I made on the Vlog page on the website, now while that was a really good experience, I don’t think I would ever call myself a vlogger, I can see the appeal in it, and I have a lot of respect for people that are doing daily vlogs, but for me they aren’t really my thing, I don’t think I have much happening that warrants a blog, sure having the challenge of making something every day does make you think outside the box and be creative, but it does take away from working on other things.
For me, I need to keep focused on what I am doing and what I want to achieve.
What I have felt though is that all of these experiences and trying different things all lend themselves to helping me with my bigger goal. My focus for this year, and to be honest is my passion is the Giant Pumpkins NZ website and brand and everything that happens around that. I can work on that for hours and hours, even just tweaking small things on the website that no one probably even notices.
The filming, podcasting, taking photos are all great things, but I don’t feel the need to be an expert in all of those things just by themselves, I want to combine all those skills and use them with the pumpkin website, and that is what I have been working towards. Learning new skills to further your passion is a great idea. Doing something solid for a month is an ideal time, as it immerses you and you quickly work out if you like it, or learn a new skill.
Filming for June
I am doing some filming in June, but it is very different, I am using the app 1 second every day. It’s exactly as the name suggests, you shoot a video or you can take a photo, and then you trim it down to 1 second. Once you have done this for the time period you want, it then makes a video out of all of these short clips. Some people even do it for the whole year, I’m looking forward to seeing the result of this month.
Health Stuff
This month I’ve also decided to jump head first back into the slow carb diet, this is the one Tim Ferriss wrote about in the four hour body, and it is something I tried a long time ago with my flatmate Chris when we took part in a podcaster Dietbet challenge. It worked quite well last time, and I really like the concept of it. I hate counting calories, even if there are some really good apps out there.
The only change I am making this time round is I am going to take the recommended vitamins at the times suggested in the book, all of these are currently on their way and I am looking forward to seeing how I feel.
Exercise
I’ve done 10,000 steps every day before for a month, and while that was great it is sometimes such a mission to fit everything into your day, especially with work.
So this time around I will be doing as much walking as I can, with the goal to do 10,000 steps 3 times a week, I’ll be doing some other things as suggested on cheat day for the slow carb diet, and have started to do kettle bell swings.
