The Big 40

OK, so I just turned 40.

First things first, I do not feel 40 at all. Like it seems to be a mistake. That number.

Do other people feel this way? I’m not sure. But here I am, 40 years old. Time flies, so much has happened during that time. Also bits of not a lot.

I was going to write a list of highlights over the last 40 years. But I think I’ll forget something and the list won’t be as good as it could be. So I’ll keep those things in my head.

Just know, things have been good. And the plan moving forward is to have more good times, adventures, experiences and make new things.

Review of the Review

In last year’s birthday post I was talking about a pivot.

I pivoted from having a metal detecting website and making it into a email newsletter.

While there isn’t much out there not covered by other websites, I thought an email newsletter that sent out metal detecting news would be the way to go.

The idea was to automate as much of that as possible and send it out. Eventually picking up advertisers or something like that.

But I killed it.

While I like the idea, and I still have a small fascination with metal detecting. I don’t think it is at the level I thought it was at.

I didn’t blink when I upgraded my camera earlier this year, or spent money on other software. I can see the use in that, across many ideas.

But getting a metal detector. I just can’t seem to pull the pin on that.

So I killed that idea.

That is the best thing about technology these days. It’s very easy to try new things, experiment with them. And do it really cheaply. If it doesn’t work, or you don’t like it, you can kill it.

You will learn new things while in the process.

New Project

And since last year’s post, I’ve already come up with a new idea. I’ve already built 99% of it. I’ve been waiting for one person to do one thing. I thought they would jump at it. It’s easy, and not very time-consuming.

But they’ve been busy.

So I need to reach out to other people. Which I probably should have done already. Once that’s done, I’ll write about it more, and add it to the Projects Page.
