No thanks.
That’s the basics of the applications I put in that I mentioned in the last post. Which I am OK with.
It was a big leap on my part and to get an interview everything would have had to fall into place.
But I had a nice chat
The first stage which I guess I passed was to get the attention of the phone screening person.
They rung me up and we had a good chat.
I talked about why I needed a new job. What I thought my strengths were and they were really understanding. I get the feeling they had been through the same sort of thought process themselves.
They said there was an assessment day coming up and they would send through further details around this.
It all sounded really positive.
So much so that I went and out and brought some new clothes. Something to fit the role and make me look better.
But there was no email
I thought it was strange.
From the conversation it sounded like I should get one.
The day before the date I was going to ring them back. Once I had finished driving for work.
They rung me as I was driving. I pulled over and had a chat.
They had so many applications to these 2 roles that the HR people decided to bring in other people. They only had so many spaces.
I know there was another assessment round in the future as well.
The person on the phone was going to try and push me forward with HR. They believed I had a good outlook, and would be a great fit.
They would ring me early next week.
Didn’t think the phone call would happen
A lot of times you just don’t hear from people again.
Yeah I get they have a lot of people they need to talk to. I personally think it’s a crappy thing to do. It’s like ghosting someone.
But the phone call did come.
It was just on the Friday instead of earlier on in the week.
They apologised for the delay. I wasn’t expecting much so was OK with it. Turns out they were super busy. They had only been in this role for 5 weeks. Unsure of how much say they would have in anything.
They had a lot more qualified candidates then they’ve ever had they told me. Must be a lot of people unhappy in their current roles and wanting to work for this company if I were to guess.
They still seemed to think I would be a good fit there. They encouraged me to apply for other roles if they advertised them.
Even said to ring them if I had any questions.
Really good person and I had good interactions with them.
Back to where I was
So here I am.
Wondering what to do.
Wondering what I actually would like to do.
I HAVE NO IDEA REALLY
Need to reread parts of that book. Reach out to some people. See what’s advertised.
It’s tough.
On one hand I need to be more skilled and desirable than other people.
If I look at what I want. The freedoms I want and the work / life balance I feel would work best for me. Well, I don’t know if that works working for someone else.
Always things to ponder.
