I can see how some people get to the burnout stage.

I’m nowhere near it, I just wanted to say I can see how people get to that point.

Been Busy

It feels like I have been busy lately, different things going on. Other things coming back for another year.

All in all it seems like a real mix of things going on all at once. I know that’s not very descriptive. So lets talk about something else.

Picking Up Random Side Work

I sometimes dislike helping people with website related things. Why? Well…

I sometimes don’t feel like dealing with people.
They probably have no idea what they want and can’t articulate what they do want.
They have unrealistic expectations or timeframes for what they are willing to do or pay.

Occasionally I don’t mind helping people out with things. This is usually because they are the exact opposite of the above.

I guess I’m selective, which when you have a fulltime job, other things you want to work on, you need to be. Remember that.

Helping with a website rebuild

I’m helping someone out by sorting out their website.

They have the basics setup. In fact it’s been setup for the last 2 years.

I’m not sure what the deal is with the person that was working on it, but I get the feeling they either didn’t know what they were doing, didn’t have the time, or something else.

It was a mess. Things were half done, things were broken. I’m not sure what was going on, but apparently they would do one thing a month, and then wouldn’t do something until the next month.

It helps when someone has a plan

The person I am helping out is really organised. They had a 4 page document with all the things they wanted. Something for me to work from.

Over the years I’ve found that works really well for other people’s projects or even events. Just tell me what you want and I’ll figure it out. Not having to worry about that thinking part makes it easier for me.
