102 Days into the New Job
It’s been roughly 102 days since I started my new job. It feels like I’ve been there for at least a year already. I went from a job where I had a lot of free time to a job where I’m actually doing a lot of work all day long.
Expected Change
I knew that going into the new job, and I actually knew that going into any new job, because the old job, which I did for 10 years, ruined me for other jobs. There’s hardly any jobs out there where you’re free to do a lot of what you want to do.
The new job is really good, it’s just different. The one thing I do not like is paying for parking and trying to figure out where to park. This adds to my day, and I’m not a big fan of that.
The Decision Was the Right One
Am I happy I changed jobs? I think so, it was the right decision. I’m learning new skills, meeting new people, and working within an organization which sort of allows people to move through it and around it.
It is affecting my other projects because I only have a limited amount of time to do things outside of work. I might have to get up really early in the morning to get some stuff done when daylight savings kicks in.
Using Technology to help get Things Done
I’m using a tool called Letterly to dictate this into my phone, and it will help me rewrite it. When I drive to and from work, I’m usually doing some of my work via this app, and then later on I copy and paste what it’s done into where it needs to go.
I can’t respond to queries or problems as quickly as I’d like, so I have to use the reminder function on my phone all the time. Previously I would just work on it straight away, and people thought I was awesome, but that was just because I had so much free time.
Upcoming Things
Coming up I do have giant pumpkin growing season, and I have been doing some filming around that. I’m also gearing up for the Misty Flicks Film Festival in November, so lots of work going into that.
Then Christmas which isn’t far away.
